“Standards” in music never go out of style. A “standard” in music can be defined as an immensely popular song that has endured the test of time. A great example and the first “standard” by someone other than Elvis that comes to my mind is Louie Armstrong’s rendition of “What A Wonderful World,” recorded in 1967. That’s 41 years ago, and many of us don’t dare to touch the radio dial when that song comes on.
All you have to do is look at the song list of Elvis Presley’s 30 #1 Hits to see how many “standards” Elvis recorded. “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Are You Lonesome Tonight?,” “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” are merely the tip of the iceberg. Elvis has probably recorded more standards than any singer on this planet!
I believe the single greatest reason there are so many true Elvis fans is HIS MUSIC! Of course there are many other reasons to love the greatest performer to grace this earth, but I wouldn’t be blogging about him and you wouldn’t be interested in him if it hadn’t been for the music!
I have a huge record and CD collection at home and Elvis Presley music is the anchor that holds my whole collection together!
Bless Elvis.
